MANNAN

 
 
The Mannans are living in clusters known as Kudi which will have around 50 houses. In history says that mannans are migrated from the Tamil nadu state to the Idukki forests of kerala. Mannans have a king and collegues ,the palace situated in Kozhimala . Mannans worship Hill gods and they are the spirit of their forefathers who ascended the mountains.  At present they begin to contact with outsiders and they have commenced to worship other gods and personification
 
 
MANNAKOOTH
 
 

In Kerala Idukki district is the second largest tribal population . On this tribals Mannans are the major section . Most of these tribes are living in Kanchiyar gramma panchayath . Mannans have their own belives , traditions , culture and habitats . Mannankooth is the main art form of these tribes .

 
     
 
 
     
 
Mannan kooth is conducting after the harvest in march / april. This festival is locally known as ‘ Kala oottu  mahotasavam ‘. Kala oottu means the greetings given to the land for giving high yield. The participants are taking seven days vritham for offerings . Men are the main dance members, they are dressed like women also .In Kooth participants dressed like bafoon, bear, birds etc. In the above said dance the dresses are made out of cloth and leaves .
 
     
 
In the background one will ring and the others will sing the same in a loud voice . The participants will dance according to the tune of the song  .The presentation of Kovlan kooth is very old and primitive in nature . Certain parts of existing mimetic acting of vetta drama is now seen in the members of tribals group
